Fiery red funnel-shaped flowers light up the garden in late spring and early summer, creating a jaw-dropping blaze of colour. The semi-evergreen foliage is also rally attractive, as it turns from rich green to red as the temperatures drop in winter. With these two seasons of interest, this is a great shrub to liven things up in the border. It mixes well with other hot coloured flowers including oranges and yellows, and can be used as a contrast for deep purples.
Garden care: Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of leaf mould around the base of the plant each spring. AProtect from hot afternoon sun and cold drying winds.
